Cross-border commuter -Baumgartner Height to Kranjska Gora

24.09.2020
Well strengthened after a rich breakfast, we set off steeply uphill on the western flank of the imposing Mittagskogel, which accompanied us from all perspectives last year. In front of the Jepzasattel we enjoy fresh water from the mountain fountain. We are very pleased about this, because shortly before Barbara noticed that her drinking system is leaking and of the original 2 liters is only about half left. We tend to take more water with us and the prospect of having to cope with much less on this long stage is really difficult. Unfortunately, this was also our only one today, as there is no place to stop on the whole tour. After two hours we reached the state border Austria - Slovenia and now become cross-border commuters. One notices it at the latest when one is answered to greetings God with Dan.
Austria is still under clouds of fog, but the Julian Alps greet us majestically in the sunshine. The ridge leads us parallel to the summit ridge of the Karawanken main ridge. Shortly before the Schwarzkogel, the cloud cover breaks open and we can enjoy one last view of the Carinthian lakes. Here again a perfect picnic place have found place.
The way so far has been very varied and beautiful and actually we thought that we are fully good in time. But then we find that modern technology has misled us a little. On the app of the Alpe Adria Trail, the distance to the destination is measured as the crow flies. So we are not as far as we thought. When an oncoming woman then measures the time for the next stage point very generously, Barbara gets a slight panic. Extrapolations now suggest an arrival time after 8 p.m. with the little water left. After a while, however, we find that it is not as bad as feared. When we step out of the forest, an impressive mountain panorama appears in front of us, unfortunately a little this, but still beautiful. A hill with lush grass and sunshine invites us to admire this enormous nature in awe.
